MERCHANT DISCOUNT RATE
A rate charged to a merchant by a bank for giving debit and credit card services. Factors such as average ticket price, risk, volume, and industry determine the merchant discount rate. The merchant should set up this service with a bank, and agree to the rate before receiving debit and credit cards as payment.
