MORTGAGE PUTBACK
A situation where mortgage lenders are forced to repurchase a mortgage from the entity who currently holds the mortgage security. This is most commonly required because of findings of fraudulent or faulty origination documents in which the creditworthiness of the lender or appraised value of the property are misled.
