OFFSHORE PORTFOLIO INVESTMENT STRATEGY - OPIS
A tax shelter product designed to create large, apparently real losses to be used for tax sheltering. This tax shelter includes making a shell company that enters in a long chain of sophisticated and compound financial investments. These investments typically create false accounting losses which are more than 100x bigger than the actual financial loss. Lastly, these big losses are then used to offset real capital gains, letting the tax shelter's creators to pay less tax.
