TOBIN TAX
Excise tax imposed on spot currency conversions developed to penalize short-term currency speculation and stabilize currency. Originally suggested by American economist James Tobin in 1972, it is applied to financial sector participants and revenues from this tax are used to help fund global priorities including environmental and basic human needs.
