TREBLE DAMAGES
Statute allowing a court to triple the amount of damages awarded in certain cases. A court usually requires substantial evidence proving the defendant’s acts were done in bad faith or willful in nature. It often arises in patent infringement, antitrust lawsuits, and willful counterfeiting.
