CAPITALIZATION-WEIGHTED INDEX
Stock index in which individual components are weighted based on its market capitalization, so bigger components bring a greater percentage weighting. Its value can be calculated by taking the total market capitalizations of its members and then dividing it by the number of securities placed into the index. Also called market-value weighted index.
