CAPITALIZE
Accounting practice of recording the asset purchase as a long-term one, instead of an expense on the firm’s income statement. In general, it is beneficial as firms purchasing new assets with a long-term lifespan can even out the expense within a given time period. Companies account these expenses they incur today and subtract it over the long term without the immediate negative effect against revenues.
