GREENBACK
Colloquial term for the US dollar, named after the green color of the US currency bill. However, it was a negative term in the mid-1880s. At that time, the Continental Congress had no taxing authority. Because of that, the greenbacks did not have a secure financial banking and banks were hesitating to give customers the full value of the currency.
