LIQUIDITY TRAP
A situation where the standard interest rates are low but the savings rates are high, thus making monetary policy inefficient. Consumers would hold on to their cash or keep their funds in a savings account rather than choose bonds, with the belief the interest rates will increase later on. Bonds have a parallel relationship to interest rates, so many individuals do not want to invest on an asset because they believe prices will decline in the long run.
