LOAN PARTICIPATION NOTE - LPN
A fixed-income security which allows investors to purchase portions of loans or loan packages that are outstanding. Security holders partake in collecting interest and principal payments, on a pro rata basis. Oftentimes, banks or lending institutions enter into loan participation agreements with small businesses. They also offer loan participation notes as a short-term investment.
