STUB QUOTE
Order to buy or sell a stock above the stock’s market price. Trading companies use these quotes when they don’t want to trade at specific prices and aims to withdraw to ensure no trades take place. To make this possible, the company will offer quotes well off the market price. It also acts as a safety net for market makers with insufficient liquidity when trading a stock near its recent price range. They will enter a stub quote so they can adhere to its requirements without stretching its quotes over its available liquidity. Also called placeholder.
