GUY DOLLÉ

Former chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Arcelor from 2001 to 2006. The steel company created flat carbon steel, long carbon steel and stainless steel, and also managed steel distribution. In 2006, Mittal Steel undertook Arcelor, hence making it Arcelor-Mittal. The French businessman’s job was a mishap of that deal. The firm suffered huge operating losses in 2001 but Dollé led the company to earnings of nearly $800 million in 2002 amid a loss of export business because of steel tariffs imposed by former President George W. Bush. In 2003, he focused on boosting the firm’s worldwide presence by creating a Global Steel Alliance with automakers in Italy, Japan, and Spain.
