INSIDER TRADING ACT OF 1988
An act that increases the liability penalties to all involved parties of insider trading. It permits the Securities and Exchange Commission to seek penalty up to three times the profit. Guilty parties may serve jail time based on the extent of the crime. Enacted in 1988, this was in response to escalating high profile insider trading cases and monetary values of the trades.
