A document that explains how federal income tax rules is applicable to the benefits the retired federal employees claim, including the disabled or survivors. Some benefits are tax-free while the rest are taxable. The civil service retirement benefits are paid either by the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) or the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS). The publicaiton, provided by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), emcompasses survivor benefits, thrift savings plans, federal estate taxes, and simplified computation of annuity benefits.
