MARITAL DEDUCTION
Tax provision of the Internal Revenue Services (IRS), which allows an individual taxpayer to transfer some or all of the assets to his or her spouse without estate or gift tax. Thus, this creates a decrement in taxable income. Marital deduction is primarily used for estates and gifts.
