UTILITARIANISM
Utilitarianism is a philosophy whose foundation supposes that the moral worth of an action or its utility is the total number of people that was made happy or given pleasure to. A phrase to keep in mind for utilitarianism is the "betterment of society" used mostly in decision-making for the society, the environment, and politics. In utilitarianism, as long as an action contributes to the overall good of the many then it has utility. In the mid-1800s, John Stuart Mill and Jeremy Bentham proposed the philosophy of utilitarianism.
