Theory stating investors prefer stock dividends over potential capital gains because the latter inherent uncertainty. Developed by Myron Gordon and John Lintner, investors would rather receive dividend payments than get significantly greater future capital gains. The theory is based on adage a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
