Philosophical thought system emphasizing equality and equal treatment with respect to gender, religion, economic affairs, and political beliefs. One of the major tenets of this idea is that all individuals are basically equal. This can be assessed from a social point of view seeking ways to reduce economic inequalities or from a political view looking to ensure balanced treatment and rights of diverse group of people.
